Queensland’s Indigenous Land and Sea Ranger program will receive an additional $8.1 million over four years to create 25 additional jobs in regional and remote areas.

The funding comes as part of the 2017-18 state budget and will bring the number of Indigenous ranger jobs in the state up to 100.

There have been calls for the Indigenous ranger program to receive increased funding around the country – with the Country Needs People alliance advocating for an additional 4,200 rangers by 2022.

The manager of an Indigenous Protected Area in Queensland says she would welcome any further funding that would allow the creation of ranger jobs in the area.
